Karen R. Koenig, LCSW, M.Ed., is a psychotherapist, educator, eating coach, national speaker, international author, and expert on the psychology of eating—the why and how, not the what, of eating—with 30-plus years of experience teaching chronic dieters and overeaters the skills that “normal” eaters use naturally to maintain a comfortable, healthy weight for life without dieting and food restriction.  

 

She is the author of Outsmarting Overeating - Boost Your Life Skills, End Your Food Problems (New World Library, 2015); Starting Monday - Seven Keys to a Permanent, Positive Relationship with Food (Gürze Books, 2013); Nice Girls Finish Fat—Put Yourself First and Change Your Eating Forever (Fireside/Simon and Schuster, 2009); What Every Therapist Needs to Know About Treating Eating and Weight Issues (W.W. Norton and Co., 2008); The Food and Feelings Workbook—A Full Course Meal on Emotional Health (Gürze Books, 2007), andThe Rules of “Normal” Eating—A Commonsense Approach for Dieters, Overeaters, Undereaters, Emotional Eaters, and Everyone in Between! (Gürze Books, 2005).  Three of her books have been or are being translated into 10 foreign language editions.

 

Her articles have appeared in Social Work Focus, Social Work Today, Eating Disorders Today, The Newsletter for the Society for Family Therapy and Research, The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, Berner Zeitung, Attitudes Magazine, and Positive Change, and she has been quoted in Body and Soul, Women’s Health, In Touch, Ladies Home Journal, Self, Shape, Weight Watchers, and OK magazines.  A founding member of the Greater Boston Collaborative for Body Image and Eating Disorders, she served on the Professional Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Eating Disorder Association.  She blogs weekly at eatingdisordersblogs.com, and has a strong social media presence on Facebook and Twitter, YouTube and has a Facebook app calledAPPetite.

 

Ms. Koenig has taught seminars and lectured at Simmons College School of Social Work, Boston University School of Social Work, Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology, the National Association of Social Work, the Massachusetts Dietetic Association, the National Organization for Women, the Multi-service Eating Disorder Association of Massachusetts, the University of South Florida Department of Social Work, and the Florida Writers Association.  Her TV interviews include ABC, FOX, WHDH, Brookline, MA cable, and SNN and the radio shows of Mona Miller, Michael Dresser, Diane Jones, Jon Duval, Cliff Roles, Judi Gallagher, Barbara McFadden, and Rick Anthony, among many others.
